Having announced plans in 2012 to relaunch the Alpine marque, Renault has today made good on its word. The just-unveiled Alpine Vision show car is a preview of a production version that will go on sale next year. The two-seater coupé will accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in under 4.5 seconds.
- Renault says it wanted to marry "elegance, agility and authenticity" in launching a new Alpine, and the Vision is certainly a demure and stylish-looking thing. It has a low profile and a smooth, sculpted body, with few sharp angles or edges. In addition, the weight has been kept down to try and achieve precise handling.
Inside, there is a focus on driving pleasure, with plush materials used throughout. Quilted leather upholstery is offset by aluminum highlights, such as for the door sill and center console, while other materials used include microfiber fabrics and carbon fiber. Bucket-style seats, a three-spoke steering wheel and gear-shift paddles contribute to the sense of sportiness.
The Vision is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged engine built by Renault Sport. The production version of the car is expected to be revealed before the end of the year. It will go on sale initially in Europe, followed by other markets worldwide. There's currently no word on price.
