“You can defer Wimbledon until next year, but the Summer Games in Rio won’t happen again in your lifetime,” says Duane Penner, vice president of sales at Roadtrips. The Canadian company specializes in securing the best tickets and experiences at sporting events worldwide, and it recently announced the Roadtrips 2016 Summer Games Packages.
Now that the official schedule for Rio has been released and the event is less than a year away, the company is encouraging clients to organize their Summer Games trips. “Once the hotel suites are gone, they are gone,” says Penner, noting that the luxury-hotel inventory in Rio is very limited compared to Olympic host cities like London and Beijing. Although it will not last long, Roadtrips has availability at several private villas in the city as well as the choice hotels Caesar Park Ipanema by Sofitel and Hotel Santa Teresa. Towering over Ipanema Beach, the five-star, 222-room Caesar Park boasts sweeping city, ocean, and mountain views. The boutique 43-room Hotel Santa Teresa is tucked away in the eponymous Montmartre-like hilltop neighborhood of Santa Teresa, among cobblestone lanes and independent shops and restaurants.
Roadtrips will coordinate every detail for customers from the moment they land in Brazil. The completely customizable trips start from about $10,000 per person for four nights. Another reason to book early, says Penner: “Half the fun of travel is the anticipation.”
