For over 45 years, Frontiers has created bespoke itineraries for adventurous travelers desiring private, action-packed activities during the day and top-of-the-line accommodations at night. The company’s latest excursion, the Ultimate New Zealand Luxury Adventure + Hawaii, is a 44-day tour that promises an intimate overview of the islands’ most well-known vistas and their more hidden treasures.
Kicking off with 35 days in New Zealand, the expedition includes white-water rafting down the North Island’s Rangitaiki River near the northeastern Bay of Plenty; hiking tours of the South Island’s Routeburn and Milford tracks, which wind through national parks, rain forests, alpine gardens, ice-carved valleys, and picturesque meadows; and tastings at historic wineries in the South Island’s Cromwell region. Other memorable highlights include helicopter flights to remote locations and fly-fishing in the Owen River (known for its 4- to 6-pound brown trout), tours of the glowworm-lined Waitomo Caves, and sailing through the Bay of Islands.
Guests will stay at various high-end lodges and hotels along the way, including the Lodge at Kauri Cliffs (a Robb Report Top 100 Resort). After a month in New Zealand, guests spend the remaining nine days in Hawaii, splitting their time between Maui’s Montage Kapalua Bay (a Robb Report 2015 Best of the Best hotel) and Honolulu’s renowned hotel Halekulani (a Robb Report Top 100 hotel).
Although the trip can be booked year-round, warm weather and clear skies make November through April an excellent time to traverse New Zealand. Travelers can adhere to the suggested itinerary or create an original trip tailored to their particular interests. Prices start at approximately $83,000 per couple.
