IK Multimedia has launched a new interface to help mobile musicians capture high quality audio wherever they happen to be when inspiration hits. The iRig Pro Duo high definition audio and MIDI interface for iOS, Android, Mac or PC devices sports two instrument/microphone inputs and offers up to 24-bit/48 kHz audio recording in a travel-ready compact unit. And it's available now for less than 200 bucks.
- IK's new palm-friendly mobile recording interface features two XLR/TRS combo inputs for connecting electric guitars, basses, keyboards, line-level instruments or microphones. The signals from the inputs are routed through low noise/high-headroom preamps, analog stages, a "superior power supply" and 24-bit analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog circuitry, and each input has its own gain control. 48 V phantom power is also available for condenser microphones if needed.
The iRig Pro Duo comes supplied mini-DIN to Lightning cable, microUSB OTG and standard USB cables for connection to a iOS/Android mobile device, PC or Mac running processing, recording or music creation apps. There's MIDI in/out, multicolor LEDs allow users to keep a weather eye on levels, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack with onboard level control caters for real-time monitoring or playback. Sound can also be sent straight to studio monitors or portable speakers courtesy of a pair of switchable TRS balanced outputs.
The unit can run on two AA-sized batteries (included) for portable high resolution recording while out and about, or be plugged into an available USB port or a wall outlet for all night recording sessions with the band at home or on the road.
The 127 x 75 x 37 mm (5 x 2.95 x 1.46 in), 197.2 g (6.96 oz) iRig Pro Duo is available now for US$199.99, is compatible with third party apps and software such as Cubasis, MultiTrack DAW, GarageBand and Logic Pro X, and includes $450 worth of IK software to get the session rocking out of the box.
